Deep in a lush, green valley, many large dragons lived peacefully with their own kind. Because of being in a valley their whole lives and needing room for more population, their size started to decrease. Consequently, their body mass filled out their new bodies and they became chubbier. They lost their wings and the great horns on their heads. But they didn't mind. They were free to roam in their little valley and were perfectly content.
Then humans started populating the area outside of the valley, but none ever ventured inside of it, for they believed that demons possessed whatever wildlife lived inside. So, in an effort to extinguish the evil, they poured poisons into the water that ran into the valley. The water turned different colors inside of the valley because the clean, pure water wasn't used to such intoxications.
The dragons were immediately suspicious of something, also because of warnings from the Elder dragons. So, they would carefully dip their toes into the water to see if that particular part of the water was poisoned. For, of course, they needed to drink. Whenever a dragon would dip their toes into an especially toxic part of the water, their toes would change color. Eventually, all dragons had different colors as well. Therefore, all dragons now carry the different colored toe gene in their blood systems. They all believe it is a very unique attribute, and they don't seem to mind.
Eventually, the humans believed the evil was extinguished from the valley. So, they started working on coming into it. The dragons knew these particular humans were dangerous and escaped from an exit in the valley wall. They traveled for miles, and across many regions of land. They settled in a large field of a small town. Little did they know, that a certain girl named SPO ventured often through the field. They would steer clear of her line of view everyday. Although, one day, a baby dragon ventured from the pack to examine this female human. SPO found the baby and its parents came to retrieve it. SPO was very kind to the dragons and gave their baby back. The dragons led her back to their pack and SPO soon became very friendly with the powerful Elder dragons. She was welcome to their land anytime she wished now.<br>
The food supply soon became low in the field for the surplus population of dragons. They would have to move soon. But where to? They had a large pack and wouldn't be able to travel very easily. So, SPO tried to come up with a plan. And she soon did have one. She suggested living with humans. The Elder dragons were skeptical about this strange idea, but SPO assured them that she would make sure every adoptive parent was responsible to take care of them.
And to this day, the dragons still trust SPO with her promise to keep them safe.
